I arrived in PR on Saturday morning, after a long red-eye filled with crying toddlers. Needless to say, I did not sleep on the fight. Bleary-eyed and tired, by day perked up when I saw Kelly. (In unison now, everyone say “Awww. Ain’t they cute!”)
Saturday night, we had dinner with Mima, Daddy, Fifi, Ramon and baby Angelica. The churrascos were excellent and the conversation was even better. And, Angelica seems to have grown a foot in the 6 weeks since I last saw her. We spent Sunday at the beach with Mima, Daddy, Tommy, Karen and their kids Tori and Thomas. The kids went on a cobito (hermit crab) hunting expedition and brought back a bucket full.
Monday was spent making seating/table arrangements for the wedding. That was a big job made considerably easier by Mima’s experience with 7 previous weddings. Monday night dinner was Fuentes BBQ and my first tast of mofongo and amarillos. Both were delicious. Incidentally, we had to order out because, while making lunch, I inadvertantly turned off the turkey Mima had in the oven for dinner. I’ll count that as my first official wacky escapade as a son-in-law.
The night ended with a visit from Billy and Ingrid who’d just gotten in from out-of-town.
Yesterday, we ran a slew of wedding-related errands. I’d been pretty jet-lagged to that point and it showed. But, we soldiered through and got a lot done. The night ended with a wonderful dinner at Jose Jose in Condado. We broke bread with Mima, Daddy, Billy, Ingrid, Fifi, Ramon and Angelica. The food was outstanding as was the storytelling.
An early bedtime last night finally got me on PR time today. Kel is on her way over and then we are off and running to get our blood test and many other little things that need to be done today. My brother, best bud John and my Aunt Ween (also my godmother) arrive this afternoon. My parents arrive late tonight. So, things really start ramping up from here.
See everyone this weekend or next. For those travelling, may God keep you safe in your journey!
